“ECO-CHIC” TABLE-SCAPES

Eco-Chic: Being eco-conscious and looking good at the same time!  A great way to incorporate ‘Green’ elements into your event is in the materials and looks that you use in your table décor.  Whether utilizing recycled elements, items that you will be able to use again, or just neutral, earthy colors for an natural feel, there are lots of ways to be Eco-Chic!

TABLE LINENS

In the past, many of the fabrics that were used in the event industry were considered a one-time use item.  Now these fabrics have been replicated using more durable materials

that withstand multiple usages and washings, making them a little “greener”.  Although

there are not many recycled or organic options available in table linens, one way to help tie in the elements of nature is to use fabrics which embody nature itself.  Three examples of beautiful, earthy fabrics:

  • BARK TAFFETA LINEN, which mimics   the look of tree bark
  • RUCHE LEAF TAFFETA LINEN, which resembles tree leaves in a zigzag pattern
  • CRINKLE BICHON LINEN, brings the elements of earth, water and fire with opulent sun kissed orange, deep ocean blues and rich chocolates.

To accentuate these luxuriant textured linens, adorn the tables with unique centerpieces, using tree branches, fresh fruits and vegetables and fresh flowers.  Use amber colored uplights to add a warm glow, depth and dimension to the room.  Partygoers will marvel as they dine on linens that catch the light and reflect it back with dazzling effect.  From earthy tones to striking bold colors, these fabrics widen the scope of green planning and help create an extraordinary setting that will satisfy the humanitarian in all.

CENTERPIECES

Some eco-chic centerpiece tips:

  • Use in-season flowers to save on price & to reduce the environmental cost of shipping in non-local flowers
  • Use potted plants which can continue to be used and enjoyed
  • If you use real flowers, donate your arrangements to a local hospital after your wedding so they can be enjoyed again by others

A fun Idea: EDIBLE CENTERPIECES!  These look beautiful, serve a purpose, and at the end of the night there is nothing to throw away!

  • CUPCAKE CENTERPIECE:  take 8-10 Cupcakes (however many guests are seated at each table), decorated with icing piped into a floral/rose pattern.  Situate cupcakes (atop Wooden Skewers or Toothpicks–depending on desired height) into a vase, bucket or flowerpot, filled with marbles, rice, lentils or other item to create a stable base.  Intersperse with fresh green leaves for a “bouquet” look.

  • ELEGANT ITALIAN BREADS: Use a series of small vases, votive candle holders, and decorative glasses to display tall grissini (Italian Breadsticks), focaccia, sliced baguettes, and lavosh bread spears.  Stuffed upright into attractive glassware, delicious breads will make a great edible centerpiece and will eliminate the need for bread baskets.  Just don't expect them to last as long as a bouquet of tulips!  Use different heights and  lengths for both the breads and the containers.  Throw in a small container of a marinated olives and shallow bowl of olive oil bread dip with fresh garlic, balsamic vinegar, cracked pepper and pinch of red chili flake!
